What about a compression test with engine running?
I know the normal procedure is to crank the engine with cylinders out. One cylinder has 30 pounds. the machinist said if the valve were burned it would be zero. The car has hydraulic lifters and so I wonder if I have a weak lifter which might not be working right at cranking speed. I want to see what the compression is at idle. Is a test while running possible? Damage tester? What kind of compression does a running engine develop?
Car is a 3 cylinder geo metro 1992
Thanks for answer Antiber. Car does make a rattle type noise at idle which goes away at higher speed and does run rough and stalls a lot.
But as to a running compression test, the tested cylinder wouldn’t be firing of course, but the engine could run on the other two cylinders. ( In fact if the compression is 30 pounds, that cylinder is NG anyway, right?)

You can’t run a compression test while engine is running on your 3 cylinder Geo Metro of 1992. The Geo Metro need a compression to can running, no compression will make engine stall. And the compression test is placed on the spark plug place, so no engine running without spark plug to ignite the air fuel mixture. If worn lifter is the problem, you will heard a knocking sound when the engine run idle speed, knocking and rough because the compression isn’t stabil.

antiber | Feb 02, 2010

It’s not possible to run a compression test on a running engine because the compression tester basically goes where the spark plug is at.
Patrick | Feb 02, 2010

You need to check all of the cylinders compression ,if one cylinder is way off from the other cylinders ,this would cause that cylinder to be die, meaning that the engine is running on two cylinders instead of ll three, most likely a blown head gasket.

What is meant by…???
…"the dreams of Avaris"!!! I am presently watching, or rather re-visiting a rather striking and intriguing horror film from 1979, entitled "Screamers", and in the film, Richard Johnson’s character, in revealing to a physician castaway, a lost undersea kingdom, mentions something about ‘the dreams of Avaris’. I remember also hearing the phrase spoken by DeForest Kelly, as Dr. McCoy, in one of the scenes in the film, "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home"…

…my question is, what does the phrase mean, or represent; I am very hard-pressed in finding information on the subject, and what I have found, is somewhat vague; any assistance would be greatly appreciated…..Thanks, in Advance!!!

Both individuals are correct it was the ancient capital of the Hyksos dynasties in Egypt. Located in the northeastern region of the Nile Delta, Avaris was the base of the Hyksos kings of Egypt’s Second Intermediate Period. The city was built atop the ruins of a Middle Kingdom town that had been captured by the Hyksos. After their takeover, the Hyksos heavily fortified the city and ruled the country using new technology, specifically the chariot which had never been witnessed before by the Ancient Egyptians. Thats what you will find in most books. They actually aspired to be the greatest of all there lands second to known during this time the Egyptian Pharaoh was in a bit of a pissing contest with the Nubian King who wished to build the richest greatest kingdom. By the way The Rage was interesting…

STEPHEN S | Mar 29, 2008

first off, the correct spelling is "beyond the dreams of avarice". The full phrase is "rich beyond…". It basically means beyond all dreams. If you are ANYTHING beyond that, it means you have achieved that thing (richness, madness, etc) completely.

In a Dark Place
In a Dark Place (2006)

IMDB rating: 4.40

Plot: She thought she was their Guardian Angel, but was she really their Nanny from Hell? A chilling modern ghost story, inspired by a classic of the genre, In A Dark Place is the suspenseful, erotic story of a young woman fighting to redeem the souls of two children seduced by dark influences beyond the grave. Anna Veigh, a recently qualified art therapist and teacher, is finding work at her inner city special school a tougher psychological challenge than she can cope with. The offer of a new post minding two wealthy young orphans whilst their wealthy uncle is away on business seems a perfect escape for her. It is a welcome escape. Her new workplace is Bly House, a remote country estate with beautiful grounds and a small resident staff. Miles and Flora, the children, seem sweet and charming, if a little strange, and Anna thinks that she has really “landed on her feet” after the rigors of her previous job. The only fly in the ointment is the frosty estate manager, Miss Grose, who seems remote and unfriendly to the new arrival. Very soon, moreover, Anna makes disquieting discoveries. Miles, the boy, has been expelled from his school, for a sin so dreadful the headmaster will not even discuss it. Anna then learns that her predecessor in the job, one Miss Jessel, died in suspicious circumstances. To add to her unease, she begins to catch glimpses of unknown sinister figures lurking in the grounds, but nobody else admits to seeing them. Anna confronts the Miss Grose with her suspicions about these intruders, but is surprised by the force of Miss Grose’s reaction. The figures Anna describes are unmistakably those of two ex-employees at the house. The only problem is that these employees are dead. Anna senses that the ghostly manifestations are malevolent in their intent. Not only is the psychological welfare of the children in very real jeopardy, but their lives and their souls are also at risk. But Anna is forced to confront dark secrets buried deep in her own psyche as she fights to cleanse the children’s souls of darkness, with terrifying consequences for all concerned.

If you have an iPod Touch 1G, well, everything crashes for you so stop complaining.
If not, make sure you have FW 3.1.2 and try to run the game in safe mode (by crashing ipod) which frees up tons of memory.

I tan in a tanning bed 3 times/week for only 9-10 minutes per session?
I also use level 1. I cover my face with a thick towel for 7 minutes and just let my body tan. My face only gets 3 min of UV 3 times/ week.

This shouldn’t affect my youthful appearance later in life.

It shouldn’t, but it will. The damage is cumulative.

Quit tanning beds now and you’ll probably be OK.

When you go to the beach or sit poolside, always wear sunscreen.

It’s worth it in the long run. When you are 30, you’ll thank me.

yes, the radiation ill still get through but the towl will help a bit, try a fake tan or take it slower thta loads!1

Actually tanning is the one of the top causes of aging. Right now it’ll make anyone look glowy, sun-kissed, fresh and ready for summer. Although, later in life your increasing your risks of cancer. I suggest you stop but then again it is your life and your choice. Best of Luck. Hope I helped.
Mariel! | May 02, 2008

Uh, yeah it will affect your youthful appearance if you keep going week after week 3x/week eventually your skin will look like leather. Even if your face doesn’t the rest of you will. Why do you want a pale face and tan body anyway? If you are only going 9 minutes a session then you are going into a pretty strong bed to begin with…
iluvshoes | May 02, 2008

Did you kno that if you tan more than twice a month it increases your chance of skin cancer by 55%
Nic | May 02, 2008

No. As long as you only go 2-3 times per week. People with damaged skin go 5-7 days a week. Also you will want to keep your slin moist.
Cooper B | May 02, 2008

no,but just going ten minutes is still getting the harmful rays but not getting tan. it takes about ten minutes for the bulbs to heat up enough to do anything!

I have a REALLY big problem(guy crush, good friend liking him, ect)?
Lemme start from the beginning(last year August 2008)
I met a guy at school, we started talking and I developed feelings(IDK WHY!) and then sometime March 2009 one of my closest friend told me she’s crushing on that guy. So, I kept my mouth shut, never said anything about me liking him. So, around April, he’d confessed he was bi and at that time, he was dating a dude. Then, I found out he dated a girl named Anna I didn’t actually talk to till summer 2009, for about a months and broke up. He found out the guy he was dating was a rapist, yada, yada, yaadada and doesn’t goes online anymore. So, I was talking to Anna during the summer and we’d became AWESOME friends <333 But near the ending of summer….she told me she is in LOVE with my bff…..She talks about how they exchange letters about the past and the guilt of them breaking up, ect. I KNOW he likes her by the way he acts and stuff. I encourage her to ask him out like any good friend would do. So today….he told him.
this is what they said:
She said….
"I’m sorry I didn’t tell you anything. I am sorry that I couldn’t tell you, but I bet you already know this. It’s pretty obvious, what I was telling jen. I just didn’t want you to know. But if you must know then, your for a hell of a ride.

(dude’s name), you probably know this, but I like you. I always have. But Dont worry, I know your answer, and have always known it for this very day. No. I accept that and always will like I did when we broke up. I know you will never like me back no matter what. I know you can’t have a girlfriend either, because of the accident. But I can wait, I can always wait for you. even if the one you love who makes you happy is not me. I understand, I hope though you will find the one you love. I will never make you try to like me either. I am not cold hearted like that. I want to cry, but I don’t want you to pity me. This hurts me, because I didn’t want to tell you, but now you must know the truth. I will always treat you the same even if I have feelings for you still. I don’t want you to worry either, because I hate it when you do. I will always wait no matter what.

I was planning to tell you these words to you on valentines day… Face to Face, but— you heard me talking about it to jen, and I didn’t want you to know. It was a surprise but you over reacted thinking I was talking false words to you. I’m sorry that I like you, but I’ll get over it, because your my friend and always will be. There I told you what I was saying all along. I wanted to confess so many times, but I didn’t find the right words, and when I did, I never did have the courage. I gained my courage to tell you on Valentines day, but never mind. I feel like a idiot because of this. Don’t worry, I understand you will never like me, so save your breath. I do hope you find the one you love though, even if its not with me.

I’m going to go now, and cry because I never had the guts to tell you this in person… Now you know (dude’s name), now you know.."

He said…
"Don’t go so I can tell you something. Just wait..

Please don’t cry. Please, or I will. Look, I DID know. I wanted you to tell me because I wanted you to get some courage, like you always had. I was waiting because I wanted you to stand up and be brave. But it was for the worst… All I did was hurt you. I do like you, but I can’t because I’m not gonna entangle you in all my problems and I’m not gonna get you depressed! That’s all I’ve been doing, bringing you down, because I can’t be happy so that just depresses you, and sorry for being this way all the time, so confusing, I just wish you’d stop keeping secrets from me and then telling other people. I love you so much… Don’t forget that. But I don’t want you to suffer. I’m sorry I rushed things, I didn’t understand you were actually waiting to tell me.
I’m sorry.
Can you just talk to me please?
Please!"

The worst part is I loved him more than a year now….I really need help.

Dat was wayy tooo long!idk i dunno….

Well, it seems like this might be the end for me.?
"The more things change, the more they stay the same." This seems to be as ever true as it has ever been over the past 4 years of my life.

I know this might be long, but I ask you all to hear me out. I stumbled upon this sight yesterday and I’m hoping that this can be used as sort of a public forum for what I’m trying to say. I’ve try to express what I am about to say to numerous people, but it ends up coming out scrambled, in pieces, or not even at all. I’m hoping the relative anonymity of the internet will be enable me to finally express my true feelings with zero filters.

I seem to have gained a new persepective following the harrowing experiences of this last year. It is quite unfortunate for me. While I seem to see through "new" eyes, I feel as if this the same view I had last year and the year before that, but slightly altered. Everytime I go, I feel as if I am making progress, advancing toward the thirteenth step, but regressing at the same time.

Who am I? I am a freshman in college, starting his soon to be second semester. I don’t really like college very much, I don’t feel as if it is the place for me, I feel as if even if I make it through I will be a failure all the same. I don’t know what I’m going to do with my life…even if I know what to be( a graphic designer). All the same, I don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. I’m just another person in the cosmos. Insignificant on a grand scale.

Anyway, it is a new year and everyone is hopeful Despite the fact of a new year, Everything stays the same, life never changes. People around the world still starve and die in horrid conditions, a man is kicked out of his house for being unable to pay the rent, and another kid is forced to pass to and fro from his divorced parents residences all the while feeling confused and misunderstood evermore. This is the modern warfare we call life. I don’t see how anyone can be optimistic in the face of all of this. I don’t see how anyone can say life is beautiful.

Life does go on and another semester in college starts again. It’s still the same. I’ll still have the same "friends" that I pretend really like me that I can try and stave off the loneliness and depression, I’ll still be a shitty guitarist no matter how hard I try, I’ll still produce substandard and mediocre shit in everything I do, I’ll still be a loser, I’ll still have no girlfriend. Heh, I could have sworn this seems all like high school all over again, just with different people and a different setting.

Still, as I try to examine the heart of life more and more, I sink more into depression, seeing that it looks like a bleak picture. Nothing else matters anymore. My parents don’t matter anymore, the people I’ve met don’t matter anymore, my faith in whatever God there was doesn’t matter anymore. The picture of life seems the same, brutish and short.

So what do I do, I try to eliminate and dumb down my feelings. I play videogames to make me feel better, I wake up one day feeling positive and then I go to bed hoping the world will end. These are all illusions I do to make myself feel better. I have examined life and it seems as if we serve three functions: eating, sleeping, and fucking. That’s it. Everything else is additional. We create institutions such as work, government, and religion to give our lives purpose, but these are all man-made creations and serve little overall value. They are just illusions to hide our simple, short, and subservient existence.

I still continue to experience alienation, knowing I’ll never be like them. Why did I even try? There’s never one solid answer to anything. It’s always "open to interpretation"… So with this, I go back to the grinder of college… but there is a way out.

I have been contemplating suicide for quite a while now and I view it is a good response to the larger problem around us. It seems to be the only way out from this hell and into nothingness. Why do people abhore suicide so much? Is it because they wish to keep the people on the earth for their selfish ends? If the person wants to go, they want to go, it’s their decision. They have the right to take their own life… Suicide is the only response to a larger problem. Nothing will matter anymore because I’ll be dead, no more consciousness, no more problems. Still, as I contemplate whether to pull the trigger or not, I falter because I am truely terrified of what may lie on the other side….

That’s how I’m feeling right now. I know it’s a lot to read, but I’m not a shallow person.

"While there’s life, there’s hope." Don’t do it. Please.
Holly | Jan 10, 2010

well i read the whole thing. i’m not sure what you’re asking but…yeah i’m pretty sure everyone knows all this and thinks about it but some of them manage to still be positive.

the 2 reasons why i would never commit suicide
-i feel so bad for the people i’d leave behind. even if i’m gone into nothingness, that’s just messed up. no matter who you are, what religion, or whatever, that’s just beyond messed up doing that to them. now if you’re supposedly leaving behind nobody, i guess that could be a completely different story.
-fear of "the other side." we have absolutely no control over what could happen and that scares me. NO control. anything is possible.

i’m not trying to stop you from doing it, and it sounds like you’ve probably given it plenty of thought but, still i wish you wouldn’t. why not just play some video games while staying in your comfort zone and give it some time. you’re what, 19? maybe you’ll grow out of it. i don’t know. why don’t you just try going with the flow of nature and conform? sure it feels good to be above everyone, looking down at all the pathetic conformists, but it’s just nature and there’s not really anything that’s going to stop it or anything saying it’s a problem. i don’t know where i’m going with that but, good luck with whatever you’re trying to come to a conclusion with, and i agree with most of your points.

I am a human, female, 17 years of age. I have a heart and a brain and blood and all those other necessary components. More importantly, I have a soul — a self, a center, an essence. And so do you.
So this is one soul reaching out to another and asking you to rethink and re-evaluate. I don’t care who you are, where you are, what you are. You’re a soul, just like me, and I love you, because we’re all apart of the same, beautiful existence. We’re all one. Don’t be a fool, please. Recognize the beauty of life and embrace it. You’re walking around blind, and the darkness is sending you into an abyss. Open your eyes.

You know, perspective works both ways. We all may be a speck in the cosmos – but we *are*. There is a quote from star trek:TNG that I love: "Some may argue that a diamond is still a diamond even if it is one amongst millions. It still shines as brightly." We may be small, but we still have significance. It is easy to focus on all the problems, and turn a blind eye to all the beauty present all around us. Flowers bloom, rain and snow falls, people interact for better and worse in this grand drama of life.

You are currently experiencing cognitive distortions – distortions in thinking which come from depression – which is treatable. Colleges almost always have counseling centers – make an appointment and talk with someone first. Call someone – there are helplines available worldwide (second link) in the US it is 1-800-273-TALK (8255). At the very least, read the third link before you take a irreversible solution to a problem which may yet be treatable. You posted, so you want help at least at some level. Make the call and get it.
James | Jan 10, 2010

i know what you mean.

and it’s not like when people say that just to make you feel better, i really understand the situation you are in.

i have had those thoughts, just like those you are having right now. and after having it in my head, and having had a knife to my wrist, it feels almost surreal to read it here in your post.

and after reading all of this, there is nothing left but to agree with you. you are entirely right about everything.
but you know, everything sounds much better inside our head, or even in paper, than it actually is.
and after responding to about 5 questions on this (the last one was about this girl who was in love with a guy she’d never met) it’s nice to find someone with as much a brain as mine in here.

if i am alive right now, it is basically due to fear. but it is that fear which makes us all human. and it is that humanity inside of me.. and you, which permits us to live through the worst.

if you are posting all of this on here, it’s because you still have hope. and hope is the one thing we must never lose.

you are probably around 19 right now. and yes, the quote at the beginning sounds rlly good. however, in order for things to change, you have to actually change. it is what you do that defines you. what is everything worth if you are not happy? you must seek happiness. if college doesn’t make you happy, then drop out.

you still have a lot to try. and while you have things left to try.. you have things left to live for.
if im still alive, there’s no reason for you not to be.

Hardline,

After reading your question, my heart is breaking for you. I have been as depressed as you seem more than once in my life. So I feel the pain. You mentioned that God doesn’t matter to you anymore. All I can say is YOU STILL MATTER TO HIM.

He loves you and wants you to find meaning in your life. I know that most institutions of higher learning are pretty much Godless places. Every professor constantly putting down the very idea that God is real and present. That alone is enough to set you on this path of disillusionment and despair. We all have disappointments, faults, frailties, and shortcomings, added to an environment that does not recognize the power of God, can depress anyone, especially those who are the least bit sensitive.

Please pray about changing schools and attending a Christian collage. There you will find the kind of support you need. Please pray now and ask God to come into your heart and life. He knows how you feel, but pray it out loud. Tell Him how you feel and ask Him for guidance. Get a Bible and start reading in John. Then read Psalms 91:1-16 and Psalms 103 the whole chapter. Read the book of Proverbs. Read a chapter a day. Again, God loves you and wants to encourage your heart. There is purpose in life, God has a specific purpose for YOUR life, and He will help you find it if you ask Him. I will be praying for you. Blessings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. l:0)

testing to see if this posts
as it would not several times before
so i answered another question and it posted
so i suspect it is something with this question

well that posted so whatever
maybe it was something in my answer which i now shall try to post here now…

OGILL in her answer mentioned moon in scorpio
and that well could be a stressor for many
but beyond that there is more to these times
that seem to be an extra stress
as i think is witnessed by an increase of such troubledness
being more evident lately in yahoo answers…

overall in spiritual prophesy
of the great pyramid
in the book THE GREAT PYRAMID DECODED
which u should be able to google info online
2004 plus or minus 3 years
the world in a sense entered one of the most testing times of humanity
namely in the underground passage way
using the pyramid inch
we entered the pit
and that will last for more that a score of years
with according to the book
2010 is when in a sense
there is a feeling as if the bottom is falling out for many
add to this on new years eve day there was a lunar eclipse and in less that a week
a follow up solar eclipse
and a saturn square pluto etc etc
and an exact septile aspect of neptune and pluto soon…
i mean it is starting to make me depressed :)
actually i feel fortunate to have gained a sense of new insights into self
that feel helpful to me
not that it will hold me thru and something could upset my apple cart so to speak

you might try some places to call for someone to talk to when one is really down and depressed..
often those are given here when someone is so depressed like you….
i think maybe someone already gave some of those links or phones..

the other thing i think
to consider is that some say the human soul is eternal
but suicide tends to carry added difficulties to the next life
my reading and study of the bible tells me
that the better translation of the greek
is that damnation and hell is not eternal suffering
but still a lot of suffering but which can help a soul learn some valuable lessons in the end…
hell tho is essentially as i understand for those who know evil and do evil
as a conscious manipulative choice for their life

as you might suspect i believe in the bible
but think that on some major points most christians fail to understand some major points
that astrology is not in itself evil but can be misused and abuse
but so can the bible
and i dont take that is a reason then to ignore the bible
but too that it can be a difficult book to understand
but in the end it is the best scripture i think about the current salvation plan

a psychic now deceased that i think provided a lot of spritual understanding
was edgar cayce…
and he spoke in favor of a chinese orcacle system based in the i ching
when i asked if i by throwing the lines if it might give some understanding
for your concerns and it said yes
and i find these lines from the caste
seem to do so and bode well

line 2 of hexagram 50
9 at 2: The cauldron is richly filled. My companion is afflicted. Not able to reach me. Auspicious.
Who has inner strength cannot be infected, who has a rich mind (or sees his life as rich) knows no envy, a healthy plant has no louse. Life supports life, it makes itself survive. Don’t get depressed by a bad situation, your essential riches are inside.

and line 3 of hexagram 50

9 at 3: The vessel is stripped of its ears. One’s moving is blocked. The juice of the pheasant is not eaten. Rain in the region makes regret pass away. In the end auspicious.
Before one can start to accomplish something big, there has to be order in one

What should three adults and 1 teen do in Disney if we only have 3 days?
The party will be me, my sister-in-law, my 36 year old neice, and my fourteen year-old daughter. My daughter loves everything Disney, and so with only three days, i want to make sure that she gets to do everything she wants to do. heres what we really want to do:

MK:
splash, space, and thunder mountain
buzz lightyear
haunted mansion
peter pans flight
philharmagic?
pirates of the carribean
carousel of progress

AK:
expidition everest
primevil whirl
dinosaur
kali river rapids
safari

Epcot:
Soarin
Test track
world showcase

HS:
rockin roller coaster
tower of terror
star tours
toy story mania
american idol?
great movie ride?

plus we want to go to downtown disney…what do you think we should do in only three days? how should we plan?

If you want to hit all those rides, here’s how I’d recommend doing it. Spend one day each at Magic kingdom and Hollywood studios, that way you’ll definitely make it on all the rides you want to do. Finally split the last day between Epcot and Animal Kingdom. That may not leave you much time for the world showcase, but it’s kind of boring anyway. If you have extra time on one day, or want a break from rushing around the park, that’s when you can go to downtown Disney.

what ever you want and can do in three days
failyman | Nov 09, 2009

Don’t plan anything. Only plan what you must. To have a better time, leave it all to chance. On each day, spend some time at Disney and the other half of the day exploring the city. If the teen is old enough to go off on their own, have them be within a certain distance and have a cell phone so you guys can do your own thing and the teen can do their own. Or if the teen isn’t old enough, take turns showing them around Disney.
Have fun!

disney quest is fun…like 5 stories of games of all kinds,,I think it’s downtown disney…and it’s cost each person to get in…but for All ages.
We are going to take the backlot tour in HS,they say its about 45 min.
long but good. I don’t think a 14 yr.old wants to do anything there by herself..if she had a friend it would be fun.
my daughter said the test track wasn’t that great.
Be sure and take the space ride? I think it goes to mars and back..not for the squeamish. The carousel of progress is sort of boring, I guess it was there since the place was built…I want to see it’s small world,I missed it last time. We are going at thanksgiving, we won’t be there for the Mickeys Christmas, but they say that is really kool! It’s also extra cost…yea,,,I think mr.disney is turning in his grave at the prices disney charges.Plan on dropping a $100+/day inside disney!

The first question is if you have the Park Hopper option on your tickets. If not then you will only be able to 3 of the 4 theme parks(1 per day). In this case even though I would normally say you should drop Animal Kingdom, if that is all you must do in EPCOT perhaps that would be the one to drop without a Park Hopper.

Are you staying On-Property(one of the Disney Resorts). If so you can take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours. This gets you either into the a park one hour early, or lets you stay in a park up to 3 hours later after regular closing. They usually have one park in the morning and another park in the evening.

You can walk through downtown Disney in a couple of hours, but if you are going to really shop and look around you could easily spend at least a half a day.

That list of Must Do’s is actually not that bad figuring you do have the Park Hopper tickets, and don’t have Extra Magic Hours available to you.

I would do Magic Kingdom in one day. The second Day I would do Animal Kingdom(morning) and EPCOT Afternoon. Normally EPCOT could take 2 days, but if you only want to do those attractions and not really worry about the shows in World Showcase you can do it in a few hours. The third day I would do HS in the Morning/Early Afternoon. Then either go through Downtown Disney or back to one of the other parks just in case you didn’t get everything in, or you found something else you wanted to do.
