IMDB rating: 5.60 Plot: Alex Rose (Stiller) and Nancy Kendricks (Barrymore) are a young, professional, New York couple in search of their dream home. When they finally find the perfect Brooklyn brownstone they are giddy with anticipation. The duplex is a dream come true, complete with multiple fireplaces, except for one thing: Mrs. Connelly (Eileen Essel), the cranky old lady who lives on the rent-controlled top floor. Assuming she is elderly and ill, they take the apartment but their hopes are quickly dashed when they realize that Mrs. Connelly is an energetic senior who enjoys watching her television at top volume day in and day out and rehearsing in a brass band. A writer, Alex is attempting to finish his novel against a looming deadline. However, each day as he begins to write, he is interrupted by Mrs. Connelly’s numerous demands and requests and what begins as a nuisance quickly escalates into an all-out war. When Nancy loses her job and the pair are trapped at home together with Mrs. Connelly, their rage turns to homicidal fantasy as they plot ways to get rid of their no-good neighbour… |

what can i do while i save up for real estate?
I want to buy my first house but first i have to save up 5 or 10,000. I’m 20, i would become a real estate agent but i’m only 20-21 this year and i don’t think ppl would trust me. So what can i do while saving for real estate? i plan on buying and fixing up a beater house then selling (not going to rush it, it’ll prob take me half a year or a year to fix it and sell it), then taking my profits (hopefully 20,000 at least) and doing it again but this time i won’t sell it, i’ll buy a duplex or triplex or the biggest commercial real estate i can buy with my budget and start building passive cash flow. Should i study carpentry? Take a course on electricity? or should i just take it easy and work on my hobbies and wait till my savings grows enough? I’m planning to buy my first house in late spring/early summer.
Ok, like most people asking questions here, you don’t say where you are. The RE market is different everywhere. Things vary wildly even within some cities.
Here’s something I’ve learned. A lot of people don’t trust Realtors, no matter how old they are. One bad apple and all that.
Good for you wanting to save up. First things first. Get to work. Save as much as you can. Don’t plan on buying a house just to flip it. It can be done, but make sure you do your homework! In some markets, this isn’t going to happen. In my market, which is still miles better than many in the US, it’s not worth the effort. Plus which, there are some of us that don’t think that the housing crisis has bottomed out yet. No one seems to be talking about the high number of Alt-A and other mortgages that are resetting in 2010/2011 that could make sub-prime look like a walk in the park. It could be years before things recover.
If you want to buy a house, great! Buy a fixer upper if you want. Buy it for you, and make sure that it’s a place you’d want to live in because you may have to for several years.
